1. Connect the USB Mini-B (5 pin) cable to the PSP’s port. This is the same cable that connects controllers to the PlayStation 3, although your PSP should come with one of its own.

  • For versions 1000-3000, the Mini USB cable connector is located on the top of the PSP.

2. Connect the USB cable’s bigger end to a USB port on your computer. If your computer and PSP are not already switched on, turn them on.

Select “USB Connection” from the “Settings” menu on your PSP.

3. Select “USB Connection” from the “Settings” menu on your PSP. Select the left-most menu, the “Settings” column, from the PSP’s main menu (known as XMB [Cross Menu Bar]). Then choose the second-highest option, “USB Connection.”

  • Accept the offer by pressing the [X] button.

4. On your PC, you may manage your PSP data. You may use Sony’s MediaGo program to manage your installed games and other media on your PC, as well as buy and download content from the PlayStation Store.

  • Your PSP 2000/3000 will be charged automatically by your PC.
  • You may go to the newly connected PSP using your computer’s file browser and manually handle the files there.
  • Place music in the music folder, images in the photographs folder, and so on on your PSP.

Connecting with the Memory Stick

Take the Memory Stick media out of the PSP.

1. Take the Memory Stick media out of the PSP. The memory stick is inserted into a slot on the PSP’s bottom left side.

  • To open the slot, snag the notch in the slot cover with your fingernail or a flat item (such as a coin) and pull it out.
  • Remove the memory stick from the slot and set it aside.

2. Connect a Memory Stick USB reader to your computer’s USB port. This cable features a USB connector on one end and a slot for a Memory Stick on the other.

  • To use the USB reader, you’ll need either a Memory Stick Duo Adaptor or a Memory Stick Micro (M2) Adaptor, depending on the size of your memory card.
  • Check your PC to see whether it has a memory card port and if you don’t require a USB reader.
