Method 1: Adult Female Face

1. Draw a face with a faint outline. Heads are never spherical; instead, they are oval, like an egg. So draw an oval shape that tapers down towards the bottom.

2. Insert dividing lines. The simplest method to begin is to draw out the dimensions of the face using dividing lines. To begin, draw a line across the middle of the oval. The oval should then be split in half again, this time horizontally.

3. Include the nose. Divide the bottom half once again with a horizontal line. Begin drawing the base of the nose at the place where this intersects the vertical line. Draw the base of the nose and two nostrils on each side.

4. Include the mouth. Divide the bottom portion in half once more. The bottom of the lips will lie on the newly formed separating line. Draw a line where the lips meet, followed by the upper lip. Fill in the bottom of the lip now.

5. Include the eyes.

  • Draw two large round balls over the centre horizontal line to represent the eyes. These will eventually become the eye sockets. The brow is located at the top of this circle, while the cheekbone is located at the bottom.
  • Draw the brows across the top.
  • You must next work on the form of the eyes. Keep in mind that eyes are almond shaped while sketching them (eyes come in every size and shape, so feel it out). As a general rule, the distance between two eyes is equal to the width of another eye.
  • Draw the pupil, which is the darkest part of the eye, within the iris, the color inside the center of the eye. Fill up the most of it in black, leaving a little amount of white space. Apply some shading to the foundation with your pencil flat. In the iris, use closely spaced small lines from the border of the pupil to the white of the eye to create a shade variation between medium and light. To create a lovely appearance, draw lighter in certain spots. Make brows above. Rub out the guidelines under the eye.
  • The top of the eyelid should now be drawn over the top of the almond. The base of the eyelid falls down over the top of the iris and somewhat conceals it.

6. Under-eye shadowing To define the socket, add some shade under the eye and where the eye joins the nose. Add shade and swooping lines at a more acute angle to the lower eyelid for a fatigued appearance.

7. Include the ears. The bottom of the ear should be aligned with the bottom of the nose, and the top of the ear should be aligned with the brows. Remember to keep your ears flat on the side of your head.

8. Include the hair. Make careful to drag the hair outwards from the parting.

9. Draw a neck. Necks are thicker than you may think. Draw two lines down from where the bottom horizontal line meets the face’s boundaries.

10. Fill in the blanks. Highlight the chin and add some shading beneath the nose. Draw emotion lines around the lips and shade the corners. Then, draw the ridge of the nose. The more pronounced these traits are, the “older” your face will seem.
