2. Press down on the yoke and shoulders. Insert your ironing board into the garment and up the arm. If your ironing board lacks a little board for inserting into the sleeves, place the sleeve on top of the ironing board, both sides flat, and iron. Turn the garment inside out to iron the backside. Reposition yourself for the opposing shoulder. Then, flip the shirt over and repeat on the back side of the yoke and shoulders.
3. Press the cuffs of a long-sleeved shirt in the same manner as the collar. Turn the garment over to press the other side.
4. Arrange one sleeve flat on the ironing board. As a reference, align the sleeve by following the bottom seam. As the iron glides over the front surface of the sleeve, press gently, sliding both layers of fabric flat. Rep with the other sleeve. Turn the garment over to work on the opposite side of the sleeve. Pull the iron over the cloth in one direction only, away from where you are holding it down, to slightly stretch the wrinkles out of the fabric.
5. Place the shirt’s body on the square end of the ironing board, buttonhole panel first. From the bottom tail, work your way up to the collar. Allow no puckers or wrinkles to push into the cloth. Turn the garment inside out to iron the inside of the shirt as well
6. Transfer the shirt to the next body panel, half of the back. From the tail, work your way up to the collar.
7. Transfer the shirt to the next body panel, the opposite half of the back. Continue to press as previously.
8. Change the shirt position to the last body panel, the other half of the front, and the button panel. Continue to press as previously.
9. Return the ironed shirt to the hanger. The top button and the third button.
Ironing a Tee Shirt
1. Arrange the shirt on an ironing board. Place the garment on the ironing board as though it were a person. The cloth should be stretched but not stretched too much.
2. Smooth out our creases. With your hand, smooth out large creases and make sure everything is as flat as possible.
3. Iron the shirt properly. The essential technique to ironing a tee-shirt, or any knit fabric, is to avoid moving the iron in the typical circular or arced motion. Instead, press the iron in one location at a time and do not move it while it is in contact with the cloth (as much as is possible).
Knit textiles stretch readily if you move the iron while it is hot and push and pull the cloth.
4. Continue rotating the shirt until the whole shirt is finished.
5. Spread the garment out flat. Lay the garment as flat as possible until it cools, being care to smooth out any creases.
6. Fold your shirt. Fold or hang the clothing to prevent creases from appearing before wearing it.
